St Peter & St Leonard’s Church, Horbury
The church is widely considered to be the best example of
Georgian church architecture in West Yorkshire. It was built by the renowned
architect John Carr as a gift to the people of Horbury. Work was completed in
1794. The church was built on the site of an older medieval church.
Carr was born and lived for some of his life in Horbury. His remains are interred
in the church’s crypt.
