Oakwell Hall
The breathtakingly beautiful Oakwell Hall was built by John
Batt in 1583. As a museum, the Hall is laid out as the 17th century home of
the Royalist Batt family. The house is reputed to have a ghost, and has connections
with one of England’s greatest novelists.
Charlotte Bronte frequented and admired the Hall and in her celebrated novel,
Shirley, it became synonymous with ‘Fieldhead’. Oakwell stands in
period gardens and is surrounded by 100 acres of original parkland
