Cannon Hall & Country Park
Cannon Hall is an 18th century country house museum in Cawthorne
near Barnsley, just a few miles from Huddersfield and originally owned by the
Spencer-Stanhope family. The Horbury architect, John Carr, enlarged the hall
in the 18th century. The builiding is set in 70 acres of pretty grounds laid
out by the Georgian landscaper Richard Woods. The museum also hosts 'Charge',
the Regimental Museum of the 13th/18th Hussars (Queen Mary's Own).
Next to the Hall is the working Cannon Hall Farm with a large collection of
animals, including wallabies, alpacas and breeding pigs. The facilities include
an adventure playground, tea rooms and delicatessen.
