Discovering Belfast
Begin to discover Belfast's many historic attractions by taking a walking tour of the city centre, dotted with preserved and restored Victorian buildings as well as shops and restaurants. See the covered St. George's Market, Belfast City Hall, Albert Memorial Clock and the Belfast Wheel - the city's own version of the London Eye. The gardens around the century-old City Hall are popular places to pause, picnic or just watch the world go by. There are a large selection of pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants to cater for every taste, young and old. The City Centre is jam packed with all the famous high street stores as well as the more unusual and traditional stores specific to a city like Belfast.
No trip to Belfast would be complete without a trip to see the birth place of the Titanic at the Harland & Wolff shipyard. Following the worldwide success of the film and the ongoing development of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard into Titanic Quarter, interest has grown in all things related to the doomed ocean liner. Visitors now can take a guided tour of the Titanic Trail. Attractions include the dry dock where the famous vessel was built and the SS Nomadic, a refurbished White Star liner of that era. Some of Kate Winslet's dresses from Titanic are on display and one gets a real feel for the conditions under which the Titanic was built almost a hundred years ago. The Titanic quarter area is in the middle of a major redevelopment and plans have been recently agreed for the building of the Titanic Signature Project, which will not only see the development of a world class visitor attraction for Belfast, but will also look at the development of the wider site and its major heritage assets including the Titanic slipways.
