An easy circular walk taking you around most of Cissbury Ring and accross and down to Findon for some refreshments if you like and then back by the quickest way avoiding roads as much as possible,
OS 1:50000 Landranger 198
OS 1:25000 Explorer 121
Distance 7 km / 4.38 miles.
Park your car at and start from the car park at the northern end of Findon Valley, GR TQ 129 077.
Up to the Ring
Walk acroos the field at the top end of the car park and continue up through a small wood to a kissing gate. Carry on up the hill, bearing left to reach another kissing gate at the boundary of National Trust Land and just below the ditches and banks of Cissbury Ring.
Around the Ring
You have a choice of routes over or around the ring, but our route takes us around the southern and eastern sides. Go up the steps to the top of the second bank and turn right. Follow this bank for about a mile (1.6 km) with great views across to Worthing and then further east to where steps drop steeply down to a car park at GR TQ 140 084.
Shortly before this it is worth making a short diversion of about 200 metres to the trig point. You see it to the left on reaching a large gap in the bank which has steps on either side.
Across and Down to Findon
Go through the car park and follow the track along the top of the ridge that heads towards Chanctonbury Ring.
After about two thirds of a mile (1 km), where there is a marker post, turn left down a wide track and follow this down the hill. It eventually comes to a tarmaced road where you turn left to head down into Findon Village.
If you require refreshments, The Village House Inn at the centre of the village offers a fine range of bar foods.
Back to the Car
From the Village House Inn head south and just after the village hall, take the narrow footpath that leads to the A24. Cross the highway and follow the road up to Findon Church for a short distance. Take the narrow path on the left and follow this until at the end, turn right and shortly after left onto a concrete road. On reaching the farm at the end, take the path on the left. This bears round to the right and eventually comes out at the West Hill car park at GR TQ 122 073.
Go left and carefully follow the road down to the A24, where you cross and take the narrow path on the other side just beside tha Worthing Borough marker stone. This path leads back to you starting point.
