Police fund future soccer stars - 03-09-2008
|
POLICE in Wolverhampton are to join forces with the New Park Village (NPV) football development for a week of football fun and a Theme Park visits for budding soccer stars.
The event, which has been part funded by West Midlands Police, will see young people from across the city team up for coaching sessions with professional football trainers.
Girls and boys aged between 7 - 14, will be mixed together to form teams and encourage unity between the young people with the week culminating in a trip to Drayton Manor Park.
Sergeant Eddie Boyle from Bilston Street Police Station, who secured the funding said: "We are really pleased to be involved and provide the funding for this event. It is an excellent way to get to know the young people in the neighbourhood we cover and to encourage them to get involved in the sport. It is also a good opportunity for us to drop in on their coaching to provide the young people with some general crime prevention workshops also."
The week will see young people have the opportunity to win medals, trophies and certificates.
Jo Jackson from the NPV Football Development who organised the event said: "We are very pleased that the police have come on board with this project. It is a great way for young people from all areas of the city to meet each other and learn new skills. It will also provide the local officers with a forum in which they can chat to the young people and give them safety advice. We hope that the event will inspire the young players and coaches for the future and give them a stepping stone towards achieving their goals!"
The week kicks off this Monday (August 4th) at Heath Park High School in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton. |
