Police quiz Wolverhampton youngsters about robbery! - 03-09-2008

WHY property mark your mobile phone, how would you register it online and what's an IMEI number?

These are just some of questions Wolverhampton school children have tackled as part of a quiz set by local police.

In an effort to reduce mobile phone theft over the summer holidays, PCSOs from the Penn and Merry Hill neighbourhood Policing Team invited local schools to test their knowledge on how to keep themselves and their stuff safe.

The quiz was all part of safety workshops aimed at getting young people thinking about keeping valuables such as mobile phones and MP3 players safe. Everyone who took part received an information pack which they were asked to read, they were then asked to complete questionnaires that were entered into a prize draw.

Following many successful entries, prizes of Cineworld Cinema vouchers will be going out to children from seven schools in the Penn and Merry Hill area.

Two of the young winners 11 year olds Terri Pearson and Adam Phillips from Springdale and Warstones schools will be awarded their prizes this Thursday (August 14th) at 2pm.

PCSO Susi Fewtrell who organised the initiative said: "The quiz was a fun way to get across a serious robbery awareness message and we were absolutely bombarded with entries. We were especially pleased with the quality of entries; it just goes to show that young people are interested in learning about new ways to stay safe. We hope that our winners will now act as community safety ambassadors by passing on their new found knowledge to family and friends."
