A group of Japanese students have been learning a range of skills including first aid and improving their English as part of a special study tour to the University of Wolverhampton.  The University's School of Health and School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences have hosted the 21 students and a lecturer from Tokai-Gakuen University, in Nagoya in Japan, for a two-week Health, Culture, Sport & English Language Improvement programme. The students have been shown the latest first aid techniques by lecturers in the University's Skills Laboratories and learnt judo with the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure. They were also given a specialist English language improvement programme by staff working on the English Summer Schools for the International Language Centre. The students have also been on a number of cultural visits, including London, Oxford, Stratford, Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. The trip follows a visit by the President of Tokai-Gakuen, President Murase, to the University of Wolverhampton three years ago, and visits to Tokai Gakuen by Senior Lecturer Tim Crossfield and the International Office to develop this link. President Murase wishes to instigate a health improvement programme in Japan, which has the most ageing population in the world. Tim Crossfield said: "The students have been welcomed and guided by School of Health staff, who have been enormously supportive to our visiting students. "We sincerely hope that the students have enjoyed their stay in the UK, and their engagement with our University, and we very much hope that this will become a regular event." The visitors will return to Japan at the end of this week. |
