roll UP! ROLL up! storytelling circus arrives in city
A storytelling circus is about to arrive at Bantock Park in Wolverhampton. Max and Lara's Amazing Travelling Space Circus will be offering families a feast of free storytelling activities when it arrives at the Wolverhampton City Council venue this Saturday and Sunday, July 19 and 20.
The Amazing Travelling Space Circus brings to life the characters from the BBC's RaW (Reading and Writing) family activity pack, designed to be shared by less confident adult readers with their young children.
Surrounding the main stage where Max, Lara and a variety of performers will entertain the audience, this weekend's event will also feature live storytelling activities and story writing workshops, clowns, jugglers, face painters, costume characters and animation, puppetry shows and plenty of free resources including storybooks and activity packs to take away.
The event is part of the BBC RaW Family Storytelling Festival, which is visiting eight locations around the UK. Mike Fischetti, star of the SMart TV show, will be joining in the fun on Saturday.
Helen Steatham, Manager at Bantock House and Park, said: "We are delighted to be hosting the BBC RaW Family Storytelling Festival and are looking forward to welcoming Max and Lara to Bantock House and Park.
"It promises to be a fun - and educational - weekend of activities and am sure that the Amazing Travelling Space Circus will encourage the audience, both young and old, to develop their literacy skills."
RaW is a media and entertainment-led campaign to develop better reading and writing skills. The Family Storytelling Festival is supporting the National Year of Reading and Bookstart. The event runs from 10am to 5pm on both days. Entry is free and children must be accompanied by an adult. Bantock House and the popular café will be open throughout the weekend.
A special shuttle bus will be running from Pipers Row, next to the bus station in the centre of Wolverhampton, to Bantock Park on both days. |
