The Northern Ireland collection is one of the most significant and prestigious at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. Since the 1980s the gallery has led the way in collecting works which address the political situation in Northern Ireland. By actively collecting artworks on the theme of the conflict it has created the only collection of its kind on an international scale. In the twelve years since part of the collection was last exhibited, the political situation has developed in Northern Ireland, allowing for the exhibition to reflect on the conflict through the pasage of time. By using historical resources, the exhibition is able to provide further insight into the works by artists John Keane, Paul Graham, Jock McFadyen, Willie Doherty, and Anthony Davies.
Highlights of the collection are the recent purchases of works by Rita Duffy and Conrad Atkinson, which will be on display for the first time.
