Neighbourhood update for the Henley Rural area - 02-09-2008

Neighbourhood update for the Henley Rural area

This is the latest update provided by PCSO Julie Greenough:

Sonning Common

Officers from the neighbourhood policing team have been regularly patrolling the parish to ensure high visibility as part of a crime prevention initiative. We are keen to reinforce the message for the summer months that outbuilding thefts increase and it is important to keep your property secure. Please ensure that when you leave your vehicle parked, even on your driveway, that you secure windows and sun roofs and do not leave property, especially handbags, visible.

The rural Pub Watch scheme was recently launched. More than 15 landlords have signed-up. This will hopefully enable the police, and the publicans themselves, to communicate important information efficiently.

At the beginning of the school year PCSO Janice Smith will be visiting the primary schools in Kidmore End, Peppard, Shiplake and Sonning Common to deliver a letter advising parents about parking congestion outside the schools which will go home with every pupil. Inconsiderate parking can cause not only traffic delays but also could cause an accident.

On Wednesday 1 October we will be holding a crime prevention event at Sonning Common Village Hall for all our neighbouring parishes. This will be held between 9.30am and 12pm. This is a good opportunity for residents to come and meet the team and discuss any issues of concern with us. We will also be there to:
Postcode bicycles and garden machinery
Provide home security information packs and crime reduction advice
Provide Neighbourhood Watch information and literature
Hand out security marker pens for valuables

We look forward to seeing you there.

Nettlebed

PCSO Kathy Brooks visited the nurseries and primary schools in Stoke Row, Nettlebed, Highmoor and Checkendon just before they finished for the holidays. She spoke to both the pre-school and primary school children about safety issues relevant to their age.

PCSO Brooks also attended a number of Parish Council meetings to give updates to the members and note areas of concern. Police Surgeries were held in Swyncombe, Pishill, Stonor, Bix and Assendon, Nettlebed, Highmoor, Checkendon, Stoke Row, Rotherfield Greys and Rotherfield Peppard which were successful and a good opportunity for the residents to meet their local officers.

Woodcote

Due to a number of incidents in the Goring Heath area, where stones were thrown at passing vehicles and at residential houses, the Henley neighbourhood policing team organised high visibility patrols in the area. PCSOs also carried out house-to-house enquiries and distributed crime reduction literature.

Enquiries into these incidents are on-going and should you have any information please call the Henley neighbourhood team on 0845 8 505 505, or if you want to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

In the last month PCSO Lynne Richards visited the elderly residents of Mowforth House offering crime prevention advice and PCSO Mark Bell continued to patrol the play areas in Woodcote and Goring where older youths were gathering and causing a nuisance.

PCSO Bell and PCSO Richards will continue their efforts to patrol areas where parking issues have been reported by members of the public and Fixed Penalty Notices will be issued where an offence has been committed. Please don't park on double yellow lines or on pavements, it can be a hazard waiting to happen.
