Family statement read outside court following verdict
A year ago, in our house in Maidenhead, our beloved son Daniel was murdered. In the trial this week we have heard, for the first time, the horrific details of his death.
An act that took a relatively short time to commit has devastated the lives of his family, and deeply affected many of his friends.
We have lost our youngest son, and his three brothers have lost a great friend and fishing companion.
Worst of all, Danny's three children, on whom he doted, have lost a wonderful father.
It has been a terrible year - just the beginning of a nightmare that will never end.
Everything in our lives has been changed for ever by this one brutal crime. Not only have we lost our son, but we have also lost the home that we had built up to be all we ever wanted and the 26 years of memories that go with it. We cannot bring ourselves to live there now, and we know we will not be able to replace it. But the material losses are nothing compared to the misery of the loss of Danny himself, and we would, all of us, give all we have to have him back.
We have taken great comfort in the closeness of our family ties, and the help that they have given, and continue to give, to us. We would also like to thank so many of our friends for their emotional and practical help.
Whilst we are pleased to see the end of this trial, for us it is only one step forward.
Now we have an agonizing wait for an independent enquiry which will be set up to look into the events which led to the terrible tragedy that took place on 23 of August last year.
We pray that it will ensure no other families will lose a loved one in this way. http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/index.htm |
