Neighbourhood policing report from PC Frances Ailward - Old Windsor
I am PC Frances Ailward and I joined the neighbourhood policing team in Old Windsor last November.
Our top three priorities are police visibility, parking and anti-social behaviour.
With regards to police visibility, we understand that some residents of Old Windsor feel that there is a lack of police presence in the area and are frustrated. I would like to reassure them that I am trying my hardest to counteract this. Our Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Andy Aldridge often carries out high-visibility, reassurance patrols in the area and, although I mainly deal with the crime and investigation side of policing in the neighbourhood, I try to go out on patrol as much as possible. Residents may remember that recently we held a week-long operation to tackle anti-social behaviour, and this meant that PC Marc Phillips and I were seen a lot more in the area. As a result, we received some very good feedback from local residents - something which we have taken on board.
On the subject of parking, the Royal Borough Council is responsible for enforcing parking restrictions in the area and will be providing updates to the local Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) in due course. We are aware that there is problem with double-parking along Albany Road and I believe the council are looking into the viability of creating extra parking spaces nearby.
As mentioned above, we held a successful anti-social behaviour crackdown at the beginning of July. This was in response to problems reported by residents - in particular anti-social behaviour occurring in the recreation ground after 4pm. For a week the policing team dedicated all their time to tackling the problem. Several people were stopped and searched and alcohol was seized from a number of youngsters. We also carried out stop-checks on vehicles seen being driven in an anti-social manner and advice was given to the drivers. Residents were very happy with the result and so far there have been no more reported problems. We have another two similar operations planned in the next few months in a bid to stop the problems from re-surfacing, and we encourage residents to report any further incidents to us.
We are also hoping to work more closely with local farmers in the forthcoming months to prevent people going onto their land and causing problems.
