Neighbourhood policing report from the Crown Wood and Forest Park team – Bracknell - 23-08-2008

Neighbourhood policing report from the Crown Wood and Forest Park team - Bracknell

PC Terry McKean, Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Crown Wood and Forest Park, gives the following update:

I'm pleased to report that PC Lucy Chimerek and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Debbie Preedy, who joined the neighbourhood team in April, have settled in well. Their arrival brought the team up to full strength and there are now five officers dedicated to the area, including Sgt Noel Thackaberry, PCSO Matt Wright and I.

Using these extra resources, we are able to provide greater police visibility, with more patrols across the area, particularly where crime hotspots have been identified. All members of the neighbourhood team take part in Operation Lion Cub at weekends, targeting anti-social behaviour and youth disorder. Fortunately, we don't have serious problems with anti-social behaviour in Crown Wood and Forest Park. The two youth cafés that started up a few months ago are well attended and give youngsters an alternative to congregating on the streets.

In line with our neighbourhood priorities, there has recently been a clean-up at Crown Wood shops, with graffiti, chewing gum and litter removed. This is a direct consequence of the environmental visual audits carried out by neighbourhood officers and local councillors, when we take photos and note things that require attention. The information is fed back to the appropriate council departments for action to be taken.

Our two new team members have been busy in the community, but would like to introduce themselves to those they haven't yet had a chance to meet.

PC Lucy Chimerek said: "I decided to become a police officer after working as a member of police staff at the Force training centre, and as a volunteer Special Constable in Loddon Valley. Before joining the neighbourhood team, I worked in the Domestic Violence Unit and as a reactive shift officer in Bracknell.

"We have a really good team in Crown Wood and Forest Park, and some excellent ideas have been put forward to help support our local area. At the moment, I'm still familiarising myself with the neighbourhood, and I really enjoy getting out and speaking to people. I'm happy in my role as a neighbourhood officer and look forward to the challenges it may bring."

PCSO Debbie Preedy added: "I moved to Berkshire about 11 months ago from west London. I'm new to the job and the area, so it's been quite a big move for me as well as a new challenge. I thought about joining the police years ago but it wasn't the right time, but now my girls are in their late teens I decided this was my time, so I applied as a PCSO and was accepted.

"I really love the role; I enjoy getting out there and meeting the people on my beat, mixing with all walks of life. I visit elderly residents, attend the youth clubs and hopefully in September I will start to have lunch at the local school. I patrol my beat daily and people are pleased to see me. To top it all off, my colleagues have made me feel very welcome and it's really nice to work with people who help and support you."
