North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) is pleased to announce the reappointment of two of its non executive board directors. Mr. Ian Rush is from Stockport in Greater Manchester. He is a self-employed organisational consultant, with a background in local government. Ian was previously a regional director of a national children's charity and a former director of Social Services, having worked in many areas of the North West. Tom Carr, from Cumbria, is a Chartered Surveyor by profession and has worked in the Construction Industry for many years. Over the last twenty years he has held a number of senior executive roles in the Nuclear Industry which, in addition to the UK, have also taken him to the USA and Europe. As well as advisory roles to the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry), Tom has been a member of the Board of Representatives of the European Construction Industry and an honorary Member of the Construction Industry Institute of America. NWAS provides high quality emergency and non-emergency ambulance services to a population of almost 7 million people. It covers a significant area of more than 5,500 sq miles. The Trust operates from over 120 locations and employs nearly 5,000 staff. These members re-appointments will begin on 1 August 2008. The annual remuneration package for the position of non-executive member of the Board is £6,005 and the term of office runs until 31 July 2012. The appointment of, Mr. Ian Rush and Mr. Thomas Carr have been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity to be made public. Neither of these members have declared any political activity and do not hold any other ministerial appointments. Over the last two years they have already demonstrated a great commitment to the service and have provided valuable strategic leadership to the board. I am confident that they will continue to bring their wealth of experience and knowledge to the Trust. |
