Visitors to Wigan Libraries are being given the opportunity to take part in a range of free art, beauty and holistic therapy taster sessions, as part of Adult Learners Week 2008 (17th-24th May 2008).
Adult Learners Week is an annual week-long national campaign designed to encourage and inspire people to get into learning, whether to catch up, brush up, to learn for work or for leisure. It is the largest learning campaign in the country, with events taking place nationwide.
To help celebrate Adult Learners Week, Wigan Libraries are encouraging people to take time out of their busy schedules, to relax, and try something new, with Good For The Soul -a programme of free taster sessions available across the borough.
The one hour workshops include everything from drawing and watercolour, to aromatherapy and Reiki. For those interested in art, the fun introductory sessions cover topics such as drawing to scale, colour and tone, while the holistic therapy events explore basic relaxation and massage techniques. No previous experience is required.
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust's Head of Lifelong Learning, Taryn Pearson said "We are delighted to be taking part in the Adult Learners Week celebrations. Learning is something that can be enjoyed by all ages, young or old, and offers a host of additional benefits and opportunities.
Taryn continues: "This year's programme ‘Good For The Soul', has been specifically designed to encourage adults to take time out for themselves- to relax and de-stress.
The friendly group sessions are delivered by professional tutors and aim to provide handy tips and advice, but more importantly, encourage people to join in, have some fun, and hopefully learn something new in the process!"
Libraries regularly host a calendar of learning activities and, as part of the National Year of Reading, will be providing a fun packed programme of special events throughout 2008. With books on every subject, free access to the Internet, and helpful friendly staff, libraries are a great place to get started for anyone looking to take up a new hobby or interest.
