World Firefighter Games -

As part of Liverpool's Capital of Culture celebrations in 2008, the city will be playing host to the 10th World Firefighter Games in August.  Greater Manchester firefighters will be just some of the entrants from across the world who will be taking part. Attracting 5,000 competitors from all over the world, the World Firefighter Games features 60 sporting events covering everything from boxing to badminton and karate to kayaking held over a 10 day period. Previous host countries of the World Firefighter Games include New Zealand, South Africa, USA, France and Hong Kong. Great Britain previously hosted the games in 2004 in Sheffield. Events this year kick off at the Liverpool Echo Arena on 25th August.
