The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is working with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the Clinton Foundation in an innovative energy efficiency programme to cut carbon emissions in London's buildings. As part of the C40 Climate Change Initiative (CCI) to improve energy efficiency in buildings owned by the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) and partners in the GLA, energy service specialists Dalkia will carry out work to cut carbon emissions at ten selected MPS buildings across London. This will include surveying and auditing the buildings to assess potential carbon savings, before planning and implementing a range of improvement measures. The improvements could potentially save 25 per cent of the building carbon emissions, which would result in a saving of 2500 tonnes of CO2 per annum if implemented on all 10 sites. The groundbreaking initiative means that the level of energy savings, and therefore financial savings, is guaranteed by the energy company over a number of years. This will create a fund to invest in future improvements such as insulation, energy efficient building management technology, and low carbon heating and cooling equipment. Aneeta Prem, MPA lead for property and estate, said: "The MPA takes its responsibility as a public authority with a large estate seriously and we intend to do everything possible to decrease the carbon emission generated by our buildings and improve their potential to save energy. We really want to see the Met go from blue to green!" "Our Environment Strategy commits us to a Climate Change Action Plan to reduce our carbon footprint by ten per cent by 2010, and 30 per cent by 2025. Therefore we are delighted to participate in the Clinton C40 Climate Change Initiative and look forward to seeing real progress at our ten sites identified for the programme." http://cms.met.police.uk/news/ |
