Bellydancers, African drummers and story telling are on offer at The Public in West Bromwich this weekend as another programme of free events is announced, suitable for all the family! The programme of events is as follows: FRIDAY 8th AUGUST PINK TANK 11.00 Aisha Born in Wolverhampton to Jamaican parents, Aisha has been singing around the world since the age of eight. Aisha has been hailed as the Queen of the roots daughters and ‘the closest we have to a female Bob Marley' by the Daily Telegraph after a recent Royal Festival Hall performance. THEATRE 18.00 - 20.00 Khalgani Dancers The Khalgani dancers are widely considered the UK's premiere Tribal Bellydance troupe. Their 12 dancers regularly participate in festivals and events countrywide with choreographed and improvised shows that captivate audiences with their blend of American belly dance style and tribal fusion. SATURDAY 9th AUGUST PUBLIC BUILDING 11.00 - 13.00 and 14.00 - 17.00 Public Acts Artist Daniel Lehan invites you to spend some time with him and to join him in performing one of his "Public Acts". Daniel will be in and around the building all day, relax and have a coffee and he will find you! THEATRE 11.00 - 12.30 (Workshop) PINK TANK 13.00 - 13.45 (Performance) Kalilo Drummers This workshop is suitable for all and brings African drumming to the heart of The Public. The Kalilo Drummers perform UK wide and continue their travels through West Africa and beyond. Following their workshop the drummers will perform live in the Pink Tank. LONGROOM 14.00 - 15.00 Sandwell Storytelling Café with Mike Forbes Sandwell Libraries Storytelling Cafes offer a monthly escape into the realms of legend and folklore, introducing people to the finest storytellers from around the world. Storyteller Mike Forbes will be performing some of his work. PINKTANK 17.00 - 18.30 Andre Bassing Trio The Andre Bassing Trio are an internationally established jazz and blues outfit who regularly appear at festivals and venues throughout Europe. Bassing has long influenced the Birmingham music scene and worked with talents such as Musical Youth, Savar Sabri and Soweto Kinch. PINKTANK 20.00 The T-Bones The T-Bones are on a mission to re-capture the joyful spirit and feel of blues of the forties and fifties. These four guys from the West Midlands have been performing various blues festivals around the country to strong acclaim. PINKTANK 13.00 Bobby Woods Chicago-born Bobby Woods grew up surrounded by the sounds of jazz, blues and gospel greats. He has appeared with Eddie Grant and Third World and toured widely in Africa and Europe. Project Manager David Clarke, comments: "We've been thrilled with the amount of people who've been coming along to our free events and hope the diversity of what's on offer this weekend will draw in even more."
