Children across the city will be able to take advantage of free cycling lessons this summer as Birmingham City Council's Road Safety Team will be delivering Bikeability Level 2 Courses in Leisure and Community Facilities around Birmingham. Bikeability Level 2 is aimed at children who are aged between 10 - 15 years old and is designed to give them the confidence and competence to cycle on minor roads such as those they may experience cycling to school. Courses are of 10 hours duration and 100% attendance is required to successfully complete the course. There is no cost for attending these courses. All participants will be required to provide their own bike and helmets. Those who demonstrate good competencies in all areas will receive a National Standard Level 2 Certificate and badge. As well as the Bikeability Training going on across the city a trial series of Family Bike Rides will take place in certain locations. These rides will be partly on quiet roads offering those who have taken part in the Bikeability Training the opportunity to practice the skills and abilities that they have learnt. Other parts of each route will be in parks, or off-road tracks. Each ride is aimed at families, however, children need to be aged 8yrs and over. The rides will be led by Qualified Bikeability Instructors and will last around an hour. |
