Excellent examples of customer service sought for official recognition - 27-06-2008

Citizens of Birmingham are being urged to nominate City Council workers who have provided them with first-rate services for a prestigious award set to be presented at a ceremony later this year.

The Chamberlain Awards - Birmingham City Council's corporate recognition scheme - was initiated by Councillor Alan Rudge in 2005 and is named after Joseph Chamberlain, one of the city's most distinguished civic leaders.

And as in previous years, one of the categories will be the publicly-nominated Outstanding Customer Service Award.

So whether it is a school crossing patrol warden or a refuse collector, a tree surgeon or a neighbourhood office manager, the people of Birmingham are being invited to have their say on who is worthy of formal praise.

Cllr Rudge, Cabinet Member for Equalities and Human Resources, said: "People are at the very heart of our organisation and the work done every day by each of our employees has a real impact on citizens' lives.

"Much work of an excellent standard is carried out across the city by council employees as part of our effort to deliver world-class services, so we want to ensure that this is appropriately recognised through the Outstanding Customer Service Award.

"Schemes such as the Chamberlain Awards, a huge success since its introduction, help foster a positive environment of corporate innovation and cultural change and they provide an invaluable platform from which individuals and teams can be rewarded for going the extra mile for our citizens."

The deadline for nominations is Friday, July 18 and the glittering awards ceremony is set to take place at the ICC on November 14.

Nominations can be made by completing a form which is available on www.birmingham.gov.uk. Alternatively forms can be obtained electronically by e-mailing chamberlainawards@birmingham.gov.uk or by calling 0845 888 9506.
