Sutton Arts Theatre presents Alan Bennett’s ‘TALKING HEADS’

Show runs 16 – 25 October 2008

This series of much-loved Bennett-penned monologues first appeared on BBC TV in 1988 and moved on to BBC radio, theatre and even A-level and GCSE syllabus.

Directed by Debbie Loweth, Sutton Arts are featuring three of Bennett’s popular monologues; ‘A Chip In The Sugar’ where Graham and his elderly mother are enjoying a comfortable life when a face from the past appears to threaten Graham’s peace of mind; ‘A Lady Of Letters’ where Irene thinks 'corresponding' is everyone’s right in a free society, but she gets her first taste of real freedom in the most unlikely place, and ‘Her Big Chance’ where Lesley, a hard-working actress, needs a career leg-up and gets a chance encounter at a party.

These three poignant stories beautifully demonstrate Alan Bennett’s powers of observation, comic timing and razor-sharp wit. The production promises to be highly entertaining, featuring characterisations by Patrick Richmond-Ward, Valerie Tomlinson and Emily Armstrong. Not one to be missed.
