STOCKTON School pupils will be encouraged to put democracy into action this month when they take on the role of Council officers in two workshops. Year 7 youngsters from Grangefield School will take part in fun democratic workshops exploring citizenship, voting and the Council's electronic administration system (known as E-genda) on Thursday, October 16. Pupils will learn about democracy through a debate about chocolate, learn just why everyone is a teabag and find out who their councillors are and what they do. Councillor Terry Laing, Stockton Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Corporate Management and Finance, said: "These workshops will give youngsters an insight in to how the Council works. Council decisions affect everyone and these exciting workshops will hopefully encourage youngsters to take part and become councillors themselves when they are older."
