Stockton police officers aided by the Force helicopter arrested four men on stolen motorcycles in the early hours of this morning after they had stolen alcohol from a Stockton Supermarket. Police received a report of the theft from Asda Store in Portrack Lane, Stockton at 3.20am. The four men made off on 2 stolen motorcycles, one a Kawasaki 125 KMX, the other, a Yamaha off road bike. They were tracked by the helicopter, two were detained on Portrack Lane, the other two headed towards Billingham, up Low Grange Avenue onto Wolviston Road towards Roseberry Road roundabout. As they headed towards Billingham Cricket Club then onto Cowpen Lane the men discarded the bike heading off on foot, they were then arrested by officers on the ground. All four men, who are local and aged 30, 27, 25 and 16 years were charged with theft, two were also charged with drink/driving and theft of motor vehicle and are currently being interviewed at Stockton Police Station. Chief Inspector Eric Robinson said, "This is another example highlighting the tremendous value of the air support unit. "Had it not been for the Police helicopter monitoring the movements of these criminals, they may have got away. It shows how important the Police helicopter is in assisting ground officers to arrest offenders and recover stolen property.
