Unavoidable Delays on RoadWorks - 29-08-2008

UNAVOIDABLE DELAYS ON ROADWORKS

STOCKTON Council extends its apologies to motorists for the unavoidable
delays to work being carried out at the A1027 Ring Road, Bishopton
Avenue/Bishopton Road West near Sainsburys in Stockton.

Work planned during the school summer holidays and originally due to be
completed by 1 September will now be extended until the end of
September.

Excavations have revealed a crucial telecommunications cable at the
wrong height and which must be taken to a lower level before works to
widen the road can go ahead.

Existing signals, including pedestrian facilities, will remain in
operation until the new signals can be brought into use.

Two traffic lanes will remain on the Bishopton Road West approach to the
junction instead of the planned three until the works are complete and
some delays can be expected in peak hours.

The works are designed to remove conflicts and improve road safety at
the junction with road widening and the latest traffic signal technology
being introduced to ensure queues and delays do not increase.
