PUPILS and staff at Mill Lane Primary School, Stockton are ecstatic at winning a competition for the most improved attendance. The competition was organised by Stockton Attendance Service between four participating schools and was run through the spring and summer terms. The school has improved by 1.3 per cent over a seven month period, and will now be the proud owners of, elephant Pit Pat, the attendance mascot. It was a very close call as Mill Lane were up against Roseworth Primary School, Tilery Primary School and Frederick Nattrass Primary School, but pipped the others to the post. Headteacher, Carol O'Brien said: "Everyone is very proud of the effort made by parents and pupils to improve attendance at our school. We know that if pupils aren't at school they can't learn - so this award is very important to us." Councillor Alex Cunningham, Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "An elephant never forgets and I hope, as he sits in the school, he will act as a reminder to everyone that they must not forget how important it is to come to school. Well done to all the children and parents who have helped the school win this special prize." http://www.stockton.gov.uk/pressoffice/ |
