See thirty six faces of Roseberry - 10am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday and 11am - 4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday with last admission at 4pm.

ToppingPRESTON Hall Museum is giving visitors the chance to see a unique photography exhibit showing the many faces of Roseberry Topping.

"Thirty Six Views of Roseberry Topping" by Simon Dixon is on display from Saturday, September 12 until Saturday, November 2 and documents the area surrounding Roseberry Topping, capturing landscapes, businesses and life around the hill in the 21st Century.Roseberry Topping has long been a place of interest and the name is reputed to be from Old Norse, meaning "Odin's Hill or Berg".

Vikings who settled in the area in large numbers during the early medieval period held the site in special regard. The exhibition is based on "Thirty-six views of Mt. Fuji", by Japanese woodblock artist Katsushika Hokusai and pays homage to the work of the Japanese artist.

Simon Dixon graduated from Cleveland College of Art and Design last year and has already had work from this series exhibited at the Photographers Gallery in London.

"Whilst travelling around the Tees Valley I saw the outline of Roseberry Topping I was reminded of the shape and form of the extinct volcano of Mount Fuji, as depicted in Hokusai's images. It was then I decided to recreate the Thirty-six views series, photographing Roseberry Topping throughout the seasons and from a number of varied locations around Teesside," said Simon.

Councillor Mary Womphrey, Stockton Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Art, Leisure and Culture, said: "Roseberry Topping is one of the most distinctive and easily recognisable landmarks of the Tees Valley and will documents a time of great change in the region."

The exhibition is free however Museum admission fees of £1.30 for adults and 60p for children apply. The Museum is open daily from 10am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday and 11am - 4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday with last admission at 4pm.
