Stockton School Sports Partnership - Every Week

Stockton School Sports Partnership

Headed by Partnership Development Managers; Daran Crofts and Carl Smith, a team of Secondary School Sports Coordinators and Primary Link Teachers are working to increase sports and activity opportunities,

linking Primary and Secondary Schools in Stockton on Tees.
The Partnership works to encourage pupils to achieve the government stated ‘5-hour' offer; which states that children should be aiming for 5 hours of physical activity per week (combining curriculum, after school, and club linked activities). Already they demonstrate great success in achieving 2 hours of High Quality PE within curriculum time across the schools in Stockton on Tees.

Schools are brought together to compete in sports festivals, events and both inter and intra school tournaments.

Sports such as cricket, football, netball, rugby, swimming, athletics and dance are made available to the children. Schools can take advantage of Community Sports Coaches and Teacher Training Opportunities;

Sports coaches are employed within specialist areas such as Gymnastics, Rugby, Cricket and Dance.

Primary schemes recently developed include ‘FunKey Steps' - Stockton's own version of the national Wake up Shake up Initiative, Cheerleading, Street Dance, Gymnastics and Basketball. Each activity focuses on developing fundamental skills and competence.
This will help the children to progress smoothly into their secondary physical education curriculum, demonstrating the essential foundations of movement and physical awareness.

With children showing signs of low activity and poor lifestyle choices it is even more vital that we provide them with support, services, facilities and positive incentives to increase their interest in more physically active pastimes.

Enjoying sport and movement, both in and outside of their school lives is a key step to engaging youngsters in an active lifestyle from an early age.

As a result of Partnership Development Work more children are accessing interesting and unique activities as well as developing their understanding of traditional sports such as Football, Rugby and Cricket.

Teaching staff are increasingly aware of their responsibility to children's physical activity and fitness, and local schools are linking together providing strong communication networks and shared resources for competitions, events and activity programmes.
