Opening new doors with bouncer course - July 14, July 21, August 4 and August 18 at Billingham Community Centre, from 9am - 5pm

A POPULAR course will open new doors to even more people when it returns this summer. Stockton Council's Adult Education Service is running a certified Door Supervisory course on, July 14, July 21, August 4 and August 18 at Billingham Community Centre, from 9am - 5pm.

A qualified, experienced tutor teaches the four-day course running consecutively from Monday to Thursday costing £130 including registration and certification. For the first time the course is available for £7 for anyone receiving benefits.

This course is mandatory for all door supervisors as it proves to prospective employers the holders of the certificate have been through a rigorous and comprehensive training schedule.

There are two units to the course with the first covering roles and responsibilities, behavioural standards, how to deal with first aid and emergencies, civil and criminal law and complying with regulations.

The second part, conflict management, will look at self-awareness, effective communication and defusing high-risk conflicts.

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) recognises the certificate which qualifies students to work in the security industry at major events such as concerts and sporting events as well as nightclubs and bars.

Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health, said: "This course is a must for anyone looking to work, or already working, as a bouncer in the door supervisory industry.

It provides the training to stay safe while dealing with a wide range of difficult situations and ensure the public can stay safe while having a good time."
