National Drugs Week: 19 - 23rd May - 20-05-2008

St Albans city and district is one of the safest places to live, work and visit in the country. The District Council's Community Safety Partnership is working hard to reduce crime and disorder in the district. As part of National Drugs Week which runs from the 19th - 23rd May the Partnership will be undertaking several activities to mark the event which also coincides with World Hepatitis C Day on Monday the 19th May.

Many local schools will have awareness-raising sessions giving information and advice to young people about the dangers of substance misuse.

The Changing Lanes Project will also be launched during National Drugs Week, the project aims to help Class A drug users gain skills by providing a variety of education and training programmes to those on Structured Day Programmes and the Drug Interventions Programme. It aims to provide additional support through client's recovery and rehabilitation.

Anybody who is worried about drugs or alcohol can contact the national drugs help and information centre on 0800 77 66 00 or visit the wensite: www.talktofrank.com. They can also find help and advice locally at:-

Raising awareness of the dangers of substance abuse through these educational initiatives is a positive way of providing young people with the information to make responsible decisions."
