Connect to your council : you are one click away from going green - 11-05-2008

Hertfordshire County Council is encouraging people to go online to find out more about the range of services available to help you ‘go green'.

The county council offers a range of environmental services through our website whether it is finding your nearest recycling centre, footpath, cycle-way, nature conservation area, buying a compost bin or finding out what you can do about climate change. We want people in Hertfordshire to know they are one click away from reducing their impact on the environment and going green.

Why not visit these pages and reduce your impact?

Walk to school
Would you like to reduce congestion around your school, cut your carbon footprint and provide a safe alternative to the car for your children or pupils? Why not start a walking bus, take part in walk to school week, ‘Walk the World' with your school or introduce a school travel plan - a cost effective and sustainable way to travel to school. Visit www.hertsdirect.org/schooltravel or www.hertsdirect.org/walkingbus

Climate change
Find out how to reduce carbon at home and in your garden or in the office, find out the causes of climate change and the possible impacts in Hertfordshire and the South East region, find out what the county council is doing alongside its partners to reduce its impact on climate change and how by 2013 we will save 25 percent of our CO2 emissions. Greener travel

There are miles of bus and train networks in Hertfordshire and many are underused - change the way you travel today, reduce your carbon footprint and the stress of travel in the process. We have many special offers on transport and timetables online for all public transport in Hertfordshire. http://www.intalink.org.uk/

Enjoy the countryside
Do you want to get fit and enjoy the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside? Why not go on one of the many walks that take place in the county each week - online there are timetables of the regular walks that are free to attend, led by trained and insured volunteers and are of varying lengths and grades so all ages and abilities can take part.
