Police in Hedge End have arrested and charged a youth with theft from the Somerfield, Texaco Star garage, in Botley Grange Road, Hedge End. The 17-year-old local youth was charged with three offences of theft and was due to appear at Southampton Youth Court today, Thursday, October 9. A second local youth, also aged 17, received Fixed Penalty Notices of £80 each for two offences of theft. The arrests follow a clampdown by police after a spate of thefts from the garage that has repeatedly been targeted in recent weeks. CCTV footage has been used to identify offenders which led to the arrests of the two youths yesterday. Officers are continuing to look at the CCTV footage and have identified a number of other suspects thought to have been involved in more than 80 other offences. Hedge End Safer Neighbourhoods Sergeant Dave Tongs said: "This premises appears to have been targeted by a number of individuals who feel it is acceptable to help themselves to products without paying. This is not at all acceptable and we are working hard to identify offenders.
