Finding out who we are and where we come from has never been as popular as it is today. Hampshire County Council is therefore launching a colourful family tree for older children and their families to complete together, with information about how to get started. This A2 chart will help children take part in this new craze. It looks like a very colourful tree and has space in the centre for a photo and details of the person whose chart it is. The "branches" have space to show a further five generations. Once completed it can be framed as a souvenir for future generations to enjoy. The reverse of the tree has a simple guide on how to start researching family history with information on what resources are available in Hampshire's Archives, Libraries and Museums. Executive Member for Recreation, Heritage and Communities, Councillor Margaret Snaith, said: "Television series such as "Who Do you Think You Are" and the internet have encouraged many more people to delve into their family's roots so Hampshire County Council wanted to make sure people of all ages could get involved, with our very own family tree chart. "I hope investigating family history will keep children entertained for many happy hours over the summer holidays - you never know, they might find out they're related to someone famous! The family tree is also suitable for a beginner of any age. Or why not buy it for someone as a unique Christening or Baby Naming gift. The tree is priced at £4.99 and available from Hampshire's Discovery Centres, Libraries & Museums, the Hampshire Records Office, Winchester, and through Hampshire County Council's online shop - www.hants.gov.uk/shop.
