Woolston School Language College is delighted to announce that Melanie Beale in Year 11 has been chosen to receive the Diana Award for her outstanding contribution to the school and community. The Diana Award is a living legacy to the late Princess; it is given to ordinary young people aged 12 to 18 who go that extra mile to make a difference to the lives of their friends, families, school and communities. Melanie age 16 has been chosen for the award because of her inspirational qualities that are demonstrated through her commitment and working raising money for Cystic Fibrosis. Melanie has the life-threatening disease, which makes it hard to breathe and digest food. With over 22,000 Diana Award Holders across the UK, they include young people who have been brave or overcome immense personal difficulties, as well as young carers, fundraisers, campaigners, mentors and others. Woolston teacher Kim Wood, said: "We at Woolston School Language College are very proud of Melanie and the work she has done to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. We will continue to make nominations for this prestigious award. The value to our young people is immense." Maggie Turner, Director of the Diana Award, said:"The Diana Award gives public recognition to young heroes who give their time and expertise without seeking reward for themselves. Within communities and schools across the UK there will be young people who have done something wonderful and we welcome nominations."
