Directed by Hip Hop theatre pioneer Jonzi D and co-written by John Berkavitch, TAG...Just Writing My Name features the UK's finest b-boys, and beats from the legendary DJ Pogo at The Nuffield Theatre, Southampton, from 5 - 7 June.
This original piece of Hip Hop theatre uses break dance, body popping, rap poetry, larger-than-life graffiti sculptures and video animation to tell the story of a young obsessive graffiti writer in search of acceptance.
The dynamic and explosive show delves deep into the world of graffiti writing, using the concept of ‘physical calligraphy' to literally bring it to life, seamlessly fusing elements of Hip Hop culture to create the ultimate Hip Hop dance theatre experience!
Jonzi D, the man behind the show, has a mission to bring Hip Hop into the mainstream. He graduated from the London Contemporary Dance School and has since performed and created dance theatre pieces all over the world. His company, Jonzi D Productions, is now an associate company of Sadler's Wells and is based at the famous London theatre. He is also the curator and host of the acclaimed international Hip Hop Dance theatre festival, Breakin' Convention. With TAG, he reaches out beyond the usual Hip Hop crowd, providing audiences with a new perspective on the world of contemporary dance.
