Katy Spragg – Weight Loss Twickenham, Richmond

Everybody needs good neighbours - 15-10-2008

A campaign to stamp out grassroots crime and anti-social behaviour across the borough is under way, with a message to residents to do their bit to help.

Not In My Neighbourhood Week - October 13 to 17 - focuses on residents joining forces with local agencies to say "no" to crime and anti-social behaviour - as well as environmental issues such as litter and graffiti.

Not In My Neighbourhood Week is being supported by Richmond's Community Safety Partnership, which offers a multi-agency approach to reducing crime and antisocial behaviour even further and make Richmond upon Thames an even safer and happier place to live.

Cllr David Williams, Cabinet Member for Communities at Richmond Council said:

"While we already enjoy living in the safest borough in the capital, crime and anti-social behaviour are still of concern to a significant number of people.

"I hope this week of action will bring our residents and the authorities closer together to provide greater knowledge, greater empowerment, and greater reassurance.

"The council and CSP can only do so much to achieve our aims. We need the help of people taking an interest in their neighbourhood - they have to commit to helping themselves as well."

Supt James Davis of Richmond Police said:

"This is another strong partnership initiative that will allow all our communities to participate.

"Let's make a real difference in reducing both crime and the disproportionate fear of crime that is felt by so many."

Not in my Neighbourhood week is part of the Home Office's Changing Lives, Making Communities Safer campaign.
