Newly formed West London Jets travelled to Leigh Sports Village last Saturday to compete in their first tournament, the Girls Champion of Champion's festival. The festival marked the culmination of the girl's service area competition, bringing together each local winner to compete for the title of Champion of Champions. The West London Jets are the newest addition to the London Rugby League community, as well as being the first girl's underage Rugby League club. The Jets launched in June 2008 on the back of Harlequins Rugby League community work in the Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow boroughs. Since then the squad have been training hard, working towards their competitive debut. Although the Jets failed to register a win at the tournament, the girls gained valuable experience as they played extremely competitively against Middleton and Warrington, two of the strongest teams in their age group. Harlequins Women and Girls CSC and Jets head coach Aran Quinn was delighted with the team's performance; "The girls have been working really hard in preparation for this competition. Even though we didn't win any games there was some fantastic rugby played, including our very first try scored by Jess Lock. The fact they competed so well against such experienced teams shows a lot of potential for the future" If you're interested in playing or volunteering at the West London Jets please contact Aran Quinn aranq@quins.co.uk Courtesy of: http://www.quins.co.uk/ |
