The 10th anniversary of Art and Soul is being marked by a new exhibition at the Stables Gallery in Twickenham. Art and Soul: Ten showcases work by individuals experiencing or recovering from mental health issues including depression, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. In the past decade Art and Soul has celebrated mental and emotional wellbeing through the arts. The group delivers workshops and a biennial exhibition to offer a platform for people to express themselves creatively and participate in a professional public exhibition. Cllr Liz Jaeger, Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure said: "The Council is delighted to be celebrating this annivesary. The group is such a valuable resource for people suffering from mental health issues in the borough. "Their work is always of a high standard and the latest exhibition is no exception. "A fantastic element of Art and Soul is that it is member led, ensuring that the work of the group meets the needs of its 170 members. "Furthermore they provide opportunities to learn new skills and meet new people, which is important for individuals who may feel isolated and also offers a chance to share experiences and learn from others." Junior Art and Soul for youngsters aged 13-19 was successfully piloted this year and will now become an official arm of the group ensuring young people with mental health issues can benefit from opportunities to be creative and express themselves.
