'Carry a knife and the consequences will follow' is the hard-hitting message of the latest ad campaign from the Metropolitan Police Service as part of ongoing activity to tackle knife crime. The advertising campaign, launched on Monday 1 September, conveys how a decision to carry a knife can have lasting consequences for the carrier. The campaign, targeting teenagers, includes a television ad to be shown on youth orientated television channels, a radio advert, and online websites. The campaign will support the ongoing operational activity across London. Commander Mark Simmons, who heads the operational activity of Blunt 2 said:"This ad campaign is stark in its sombre message to young people about the consequences of carrying a knife. '"Carrying and using a knife has dire consequences; both for the victim and their family and also you and your friends and family. "If you carry a knife, you will be arrested and you will be charged and appear before the courts. "Knife crime remains a priority for the Met Police and there will no let up in sustained activity to tackle this issue as well as work to divert young people away from getting involved in knife crime. "Since the start of Blunt 2 in May of this year we have taken over 1900 knives off the streets through the use of search powers, intelligence from the community, and pro active policing. "We continue to work closely with communities, and our partner agencies in tackling knife crime." The campaign will be supported by a new youth anti-weapons website.
