Behind-the-scenes tour at Hampton Court - Wednesday 16, 23, 30 July

Join an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour to see this beautiful 18th-century state bed, made for Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, displayed for the first time in over fifteen years.
Every Wednesday from 25 June - 29 October inclusive

This is a rare chance to see the bed during the final stages of its conservation.  It will be completed by the addition of the foot curtains which are currently in our conservation studios.  Uniquely, their absence gives you the opportunity to see the magnificent gilded foot posts, usually only visible to the occupant of the bed.  The room has been dressed with eight footstools and two throne chairs from the original suite of furniture.  Royal Collection paintings of Queen Charlotte, King George and George, Duke of York, from Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle enhance the setting for this fabulous bed. 

Until October this year, you will be able to learn about the history of the bedchamber and the bed; its construction, including the creation of the beautifully embroidered textiles, its conservation and the challenges of displaying this extraordinary object in a historic setting.

The tours take place on Wednesday afternoons in the Prince of Wales' apartments, Queen's Route, from 25 June until 29 October 2008.

Admission is included in your Hampton Court Palace entrance ticket. 

Timed tours are conducted on Wednesday afternoons only and can be booked at the information centre in Clock Court. Please note that places are limited.
