Incident on the M6 Motorway - 05-07-2008

Police were called to an accident involving four vehicles on the M6 between J32 and 33, Billsborough and Claughton just after 1.15am yesterday morning (Friday 4 July). One woman died at the scene and another woman remains critically ill in hospital, both were travelling in a Ford Escort are believed to be from southern England but enquiries are ongoing to identify them.

A third man, driver of a Vauxhall Astra has sustained serious injuries while the male driver of a white Mercedes sprinter van is believed to have suffered minor injuries. The male driver of the fourth vehicle, a HVG, escaped uninjured.

The motorway was closed for several hours whilst emergency services attended the scene and was re-opened just before 8am.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward call police on 08451 25 35 45. A full investigation is currently underway
