The University of Portsmouth has achieved the highest student satisfaction rating of all south coast universities in this year's National Student Survey. It was also ranked first out of all *modern universities for satisfaction Eighty eight per cent of final students said they were satisfied with their course, placing the University 14th overall out of 90 English universities - an increase from 17th position in 2007. The national average score is 83 percent. The fourth annual National Student Survey was commissioned by HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England), and measured the opinions of 220 000 final year students at universities and higher education colleges across the UK. Students were asked to what extent they agreed with statements under six headings: - Teaching

- Overall Satisfaction
Subject areas at Portsmouth where overall satisfaction is particularly high include: politics (99%), history (98%), human and social geography (98%), mathematics and statistics (97%), management (97%), European languages and area studies (95%), subjects allied to medicine (94%), and finance (94%). Professor John Craven, Vice Chancellor said: "This is an outstanding achievement to be in the top 20 per cent nationally, best on the south coast and best post-92 university." "I am extremely proud of these results and grateful for the hard work across the University that goes into making our students satisfied with their experience here."
