Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was pushed over and her handbag was snatched near to Crasswell Street, Portsmouth.
At 11am on Sunday, August 17, an 85-year-old woman from Fratton was walking down the pathway between St Faiths church and Durban Homes on Craswell Street, having just been to Mass, when she was approached from behind and pushed over.
As she was pushed the woman's handbag was also taken. The woman did not see who had pushed her.
The woman hit her head as she fell and also sustained a fractured hip bone. She was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment where she is undergoing an operation this morning, Monday, August 18.
The woman's handbag was recovered nearby, with the contents taken. In particular her purse and keys were missing.
DC Dan Sanzen-Baker said, "We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this incident take place to come forward. With people leaving the church there would have been a number of people around. In particular we'd like to speak to two young men who were seen nearby just after this happened, as they may have seen something important. They were aged around 19 years old, both wearing jeans, one in a dark t-shirt and the other with a blue and white jacket. The woman was very shaken after the incident and in a lot of pain and I would urge anyone who can help to get in contact." Can you help?
