Police are appealing for information after two men attempted to steal the till from the Copnor Mini Market on Copnor Road, Portsmouth.
Between 9pm and 9.15pm on Monday, August 4, two men entered the store and attempted to buy a bottle of cider, which the shopkeeper refused as the pair were unable to provide ID.
One of the men came around the side of the counter and told the 40-year-old shopkeeper to open the till. As this was happening the second man leant over the counter and tried to grab the till.
The shopkeeper tried to stop the man in front of the counter from taking the till, and was hit in the face. The man who had come around the side of the counter also hit out at the man's leg with a knife, before the pair fled the store.
The man sustained cuts on his right ankle during the incident, but did not require any hospital treatment.
The knife had a black handle and a blade that was around eight inches long. The shopkeeper described it as a ‘flick knife'.
The men were both described as: - White
- Around 5ft 4ins tall
- Approximately 18 years old
- Wearing t-shirts (one was blue) and tracksuit bottoms
PC Chris Bird said, "I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area and seen a group of young people before or after the time of the incident. There were some people hanging around the entrance to the shop when the incident took place and it may be that the two offenders were part of the group, or that people from that group saw them and can assist us in identifying them. If you have any information please contact police." Can you help?
