Two children of Portsmouth University staff had a dream come true last week when they won a competition to be Portsmouth football club mascots at The FA Cup Final on Saturday. The winners, Daisy Turnbull and Jack Reeves, both 10, had to design an energy efficient stadium, thinking about the ways that they could reduce the use of electricity and gas. The competition was sponsored by energy company, E.ON and the prize was awarded for the most creative plans. Daisy and Jack will receive a free football kit and then walk out onto the grounds at Wembley with the Portsmouth team at the start of the game. 'As a long standing customer of E.ON, the University was selected to participate in the competition, and with Pompey being in the final the two tied together well' said Richard Johnson, Campaign Manager at E.ON. ‘There was only supposed to be one winner but the quality of entries was so good we had to pick two'. By coincidence both Daisy and Jack celebrated birthdays last week. Jack's mother Sonia decided to announce the news on his birthday. She said: 'We kept it secret until the day, although we found out a few days before. It was really hard but we did manage to surprise him'. Sarah Turnbull, Daisy's mother said: 'Daisy went absolutely bananas when she found out she had won. It was her birthday on Monday and she was feeling sad because her Dad was away on HMS Albion. She soon forgot about that when she heard the news.' Pompey in the Community visits Daisy's school, Portsmouth High School, every Tuesday to train the girls. The two children said that this was the best birthday present they could imagine. News Source: www.port.ac.uk |
