A large number of mature cannabis plants have been found growing at a house in Essex Street, Semilong, Northampton. Officers from the Castle Ward Safer Community Team carried out a warrant at the premises following information received from local people, who were concerned that the house was being used as a cannabis factory. On Sunday morning, police went to the house and found several hundred plants in various stages of maturity. The electricity supply to the house had been tampered with, and the electricity supply company had to be called out to make the electricity safe before the house could be cleared. No-one was at the property at the time and no-one has been arrested. Police will be returning to the scene today to finish searching for evidence and clearing the house. A spokesman for the SCT said: "Drugs are a cause of enormous concern to people in every community and we need people to continue to pass information about any suspicions they have about drug dealing or use. We will act on it and information given to us enables us to tackle criminality and seize drugs as we have today." Anyone with information about drugs can contact police on 08453 700700 or fill in the form. Crimestoppers can also be contacted on 0800 555111 and callers will not have to give their own name. |
