Police in two areas of Northampton are to take part in a joint week of action to tackle motorcycle nuisance. The issue has been raised by members of the public to the Delapre and Briar Hill, Spencer, Kingsthorpe and Boughton Green Safer Community Teams, who have made it one of their priorities. The week of action will start on Wednesday 23 July and will see officers out and about reminding the public and anyone they see using a motorcycle of the laws governing them. The teams, which cover the South West and North Sectors of the town, are also asking the public to do their part in helping to combat the issue. They have set up a new e-mail address, section59@northants.police.uk where anyone who has seen a person acting in an anti-social manner can contact them and let them know what is happening. All the teams need to know is what the person is doing, where they are and any description the person or their bike. PC Duncan Faulkner from the Delapre and Briar Hill SCT, said: "Motorcycle nuisance has been chosen as a priority across these parts of Northampton and we are determined to tackle the issue. "We will be taking part in a week of action aimed at clamping down on this kind of nuisance and as part of this are asking the public to give us as much information as they can on the people who are taking part in this anti-social behaviour. "Those people who contact us can do so anonymously by either e-mailing us at section59@northants.police.uk or by calling 08453 700700 and asking to speak to their local Safer Community Team." If someone is found to be causing a nuisance they will initially be given a warning. If they do it again then their motorcycle will be seized and they will have to pay for the recovery of the bike plus any storage fees. The teams will be working alongside the DVLA, the End of Life Vehicle Impound Scheme (ELVIS) and Northampton Borough Council during the week of action. News Source: http://www.northants.police.uk/ |
