A GROUP of ten special constables will cycle through the north of the county wearing pink T-shirts in support of a colleague who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Specials chief inspector Tina Benson was already being treated for bowel cancer when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and told she must undergo a mastectomy. So ten of Tina's team have organised a 60-mile bike ride with the aim of raising money for the breast care clinic at Kettering General Hospital and also to show their support for a much-loved and respected colleague. Benson's Bike Ride will take place on Sunday 20 July and Tina, who has just had surgery and is now recovering. Participants will wear Pink t-shirts to illustrate their support for breast cancer charities. The bike ride will start about 8am at Corby Police Station and will also go through Oundle, Thrapston, Kettering, Desborough, Pytchley, Earls Barton, Wellingborough, Rushden and Irthlingborough. Special Constable Jason Cullum, a plumber by trade, said: "We are all ready to go now. "I'm looking forward to it - it's going to be a good laugh. It's going to be a long trip but I won't give in, not matter how tired I am. "The main reason for doing it is to support Tina - I want to do whatever I can to support her."
