THE British Grand Prix may all be about fast cars but police are concerned that some fast motorcycles may also be making their way to Silverstone at the weekend. Casualty reduction officer PC Steve Harris has issued a warning to both motorcyclists and motorists heading to the festival, which gets underway tomorrow (Friday). He said: "It is important that drivers are ‘bike aware' as motorcyclists weave through queues of traffic. "Drivers should leave ample room and not react aggressively if overtaken. I would urge all riders and drivers heading to the circuit to show tolerance and patience, and to leave the speed to those on the racetrack. "So far this year, motorcycle killed and seriously injured figures are down on this time last year and I want it to stay that way. "Bikers, for their part, should keep filtering speed to a minimum and should not ride aggressively. They should also watch out for sudden manoeuvres as drivers may be watching the signs and not the road." Motorists are reminded that the A43 - between Towcester and Syresham - will be closed to through traffic for next three days (Friday to Sunday). Vehicles on their way to the Grand Prix are advised to play close attention to the signage en route to Silverstone. Non-Grand Prix traffic is advised to avoid the Silverstone area this weekend and plan an alternative route.
