THE racing drivers will be counting on super technology when they navigate their way around the Silverstone track in Sunday's British Grand Prix. But motorists attending the three-day festival this weekend should not count on their satellite navigation systems when making the journey to the Northamptonshire circuit. In fact, police advice is to leave the satnav system at home - it won't help you get to the circuit and it presents a crime risk. With one-way systems in place on the A43 for the event from Friday 4 July to Sunday 6 July, satnav will be no use to motorists and could actually present drivers with more problems than solutions. And if you bring satnav to Silverstone, and then leave it in your unattended vehicle, you run the risk of it being stolen as these systems are a major temptation for any thieves wandering around the car parks and campsites. Superintendent John Jones, the event commander, said: "Satnav systems are very useful additions to in-car technology I would advise drivers to get back to basics when attending the Grand Prix. "That means checking the road map before you set out and then following the signposts once you get near to Silverstone. "For peace of mind, it really is better if you leave the satnav at home on this occasion. "If you do have it with you, then we would advise you to remove it from the vehicle and keep it with you on your person while watching the racing. "But what is the point of doing that when it would be much easier and more reassuring to leave it at home in the first place?" The A43 between Towcester and Syresham will be closed on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Grand Prix weekend to accommodate the race traffic. One-way systems will be in place to funnel traffic into the circuit and diversion routes are in place for all other traffic wanting to avoid the Silverstone area. The main regional diversion route for traffic that would ordinarily use the A43 to travel between the M1 and M40 on Friday morning and evening is as follows: M1 Junction 15 - A508 to Stony Stratford - A422 to Buckingham - A421 to join the A43 south of Brackley - A43 to M40 Junction 10 M40 Junction 10 - A43 to A421 turn - A421 to Buckingham - A422 to Stony Stratford - A508 to M1 Junction 15.
